WTF???!!
Yes. In case any of you think that the title means anything else, it IS "What the F*@& (one quarter fish, three-quartes duck)".
Just now, while we were having lunch at Crystal Jade at Takashimaya, I witnessed this incident which made me fume with rage. Just take a moment, take a look at the family in the picture below, and if you think you want to read about what happened, scroll down.
OK. Just to provide some background information. The woman in black is the maid to the family. There's the husband, and the wife, and two kids. One elder boy and a younger girl...
When the 5 of us (da, myself, mama, kelvin and my niece Vanessa) arrived there, we had to wait because it was full inside. Then, we saw this poor soul sitting outside of the restaurant, with a stroller with a young toddler in it. At first, I thought nothiing of it, until mama brought to my attention that it was a maid, and that she kept looking inside the restaurant at this particular table. I put two and two together, and assumed that the table inside was the "maam and sir" of the maid. I was already feeling quite upset, because I thought it unjust that the maid had to sit outside and take care of the young girl when the family was having a meal inside. However, I gave the family the benefit of the doubt. "Innocent until proven guilty", I thought. Furthermore, there WAS a chance that they were not even the employers of the maid.
And then came our turn, and we went in. Fortunatelly (or unfortunately), we sat just behind the family. I saw the father keep hand signalling to the maid. and then my suspicions were true. They were the bosses of the maid. At this time, I was already fuming mad. I was really feeling unjusified for the maid. The family ordered quite a lot of food, and the boy was eating with the parents. Then, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, it did.
Halfway through our meal, I saw the maid push the stroller in to the restaurant. She sat down, settled the todler into the baby chair, and then I saw a scene so inhumane that I thought "go burn in hell". The ma'am pushed the son's bowl of unfinished noodles to the maid, and asked her to finish it. The poor maid...I really couldn't swallow my food.
I know, there may be more than meets the eye. But I don't care. From what I see, I really think it is terrible. If any of you knows any of them, or anyone at all who does something similar to their domestic helper, please, please, tell them off. It's simply inhumane. Some people may argue that they just don't want to waste food. There is a difference between not wanting to waste food, and keeping the maid outside the place to wait for you to squeeze till you can't down anymore, before she has a chance to eat.
Seriously, before doing something, put yourself in their shoes. The maid may not have said anything, but how would it feel!!?? I's something I can't fathom.
Here's what I think. I mean, come on. A bowl of noodles will not cost more than $10. If you are so fucking rich that you can afford to eat there, then you wouldn't mind paying for another bowl for the maid. If you cannot even afford to pay for a bowl for the maid, then don't fucking eat there! Think of how humiliated the maid must have felt. I know I would, if I were her..
Thinking back, our maids who used to work for us had it good. Whatever we had, they would have as well. If we went to Sentosa, they would have the same fun. If we had seafood dinner, they would have it as well. They were treated as equals, and not someone below us. WHich I think is the right way to treat them. My parents taught us that since we were young. They are here to work for us, and not to be SLAVES. How would you feel if your boss treated you the same way: like a dog? Sick.
I just think these people are SICK! What kind of sick message are you sending to your stupid kids??
