A sneak preview... for the privileged people out there...

How did da and I spend Christmas eve? Karaoke!! =)

It was god knows how long it has been since we went to karaoke. Hee. This time, you people get to hear, for the first time, a preview of da and my wedding song... Let me know what you think about it... hee hee.

It's a song by Jacky Cheung and Gao Sheng Mei, 你最珍贵。 Translated into meaning "you are the most precious".

Merry Christmas one and all!!

Today is the 25th Dceember. The same day every year where peopl go broke, and children are the happiest lot of them all.. haha.

Merry Christmas to one and all!! =)

For me, the only present I got apart from the one from da, is this pair of mugs from ou ou koko and biao sao... (vivy's father)

Precious moments, and really pretty.. =)

It's really sad yah? when you spend money and buy people presents, put so much thought and effort, and then you don't get even a word of thanks, or any form of appreciation... =(

Anyway, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!!

Charlotte's Web

Last Friday, I took my niece and nephew out for a movie, Charlotte's Web. It starred Dakota Fanning. She was really quite good an actress, and I enjoyed the movie. However, I would think that people watching it would have to read the book before watching, because there are quite a lot of "unspoken" scenes in the movie that are only present in the book.

Before the movie, I took them to Toys'r'us at Forum, and tried an experiment with them. I gave them $10 each, and told them that they could buy anything that they wanted with the money. However, if the money was insufficient, and they had to "borrow" money from me, each dollar borrowed would cost them 4 pages of assessment book worksheets.

I also told them that they could combine the money together to buy one game or toy to share among themselves. The results were amazing.

As we walked through the shop, I could see lots and lots of discussion, decision making and mathematics in the process. FOr example, Jo wanted to buy a certain toy which cost $2.95. Then he would be subtracting to see how much money he would have left. Then he decided that it was not worth it after all.

Minn, on the other hand, asked me if she could keep the money and get more money before buying something for herself. I told her that the money was hers for keeping, and she could decide what she wanted to do with it.

In the end, Jo decided to buy a magic deck of cards. It was buy 3 decks for the price of 2. However, each deck costs $5.95. I also taught him estimation and rounding up. I told him that $5.95 was closer to $6, and therefore if he took each deck to cost $6, he would need about $12 for 2 decks.

I then gave him a choice, whether he wanted to borrow money from me, or from Minn. I also told him that it was up to them to decide on how to work out the :loan agreement". Hehe.

After much deliberation and discussion, Minn decided to just give him the money to buy the cards on the condition that they shared the decks.

Aren't they adorable... and they are actially very capable of decision making.. !

Haha. Isn't this wig very cute?? I wanted to buy it, but then there were not many designs left..

Minn and the bear

err/...have a beary merry christmas!
Well, there was a heap of soft toys on the floor, and Jo and Minn were lying there.. haha.

inside the cinema... We were watching Charlotte's Web.

Minn and I

Here's Shuxian with Jo and Minn. They really like her a lot....

I just realised how long it has been since I last took a photo with my brother. DO we still look alike? Or has the semblance gone?

After the movie, we went to Han's at Bukit Merah for dinner.

da's granpapa birthday

Last night, da and I went to his grandma's place for a buffet dinner. His aunt and cousin from Malaysia came to Singapore for a holiday, and the aunts ordered buffet for a sort of christmas celebration, and also for his grandpa's birthday.

Here's a shot of all the aunts (well, short of one) in the room. They were all doing home pedicure.. quite cool, and well done as well.

The birthday cake.

Here's a video on the singing of the birthday song.

Here's most of the grandchildren. Look how happy grandpa is??

After that, we took da's cousin out to Penny Black's for a Liverpool match. He was a big liverpool fan, just like da...

And needless to say, they were ecstatic when LIverpool won.. The cousin is the one second from the left, in pink. A very sensible boy, although only 18 years old..

Singapore Dreaming

I was just watching the movie "Singapore Dreaming" with my parents.

It's a really good show, about the very real situations that are happening with people in SIngapore nowadays. I don't know about you people reading this: But I am sensing a phenomenon in SIngapore. I think our people are too blindly seeking fortune (and fame, for that matter), that we are forgetting the real meaning of life.

The movie targets several very real issues, e.g.: fighting for money, depending on toto for money, women being the breadwinner of the family and the problems it brings...blah blah blah...

However, what really caught me was this "quote" by a PRC actress in the show. She was talking to Lim Yu Beng (who, by the way is a "useless" husband who is selling insurance and can't clinch deals. The wife was pregnant, and she was like the sole breadwinner in the family. As a result, she always looks down on the husband, and will always make him feel inferior).

So, they were at her father's (played by Richard Low) funeral, and she just had a very bad quarrel with him. He went to a coffee shop to drink, and was served by this PRC woman. He was complaining how he couldn't pursue his dreams of becoming a singer because he didn't have the money, and the PRC woman was also saying that she couldn't pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion designer because she didn't have money. He said that they were in the same plight. Then she said "no".

This was what she said:

你是为了钱,而放弃你的理想,去做自己不喜欢的工作。

而我,是为了自己的理想,而去做自己不喜欢的工作赚钱。

Loosely translated, it means that "Because of money, you give up your dreams and do something which you don't like. However, for me, it is BECAUSE of my dream that I am doing something I don't like, so that I can pursue my dreams".

It made me stop and think: Is it true?

Upon reflection, the sad truth is: yes. It is true. How many of us are TRULY doing what we want to do? Haven't we all wanted to be a singer, to be an artist, to be a photographer?

How many of us have been told "be practical, get a good job, and come back to earth. Being a photographer has no future in SIngapore one lah..."

Penny for your thought?

Wedding!!!! (obviously not mine...)

Last Sunday, ROger's cousin (and my friend, coincidentally) got married. Strangely enough, the world is small enough for me to know her before I even knew da. All because of my dogs. And hers.

Last time, I had a chihuahua named SImba, and a boxer named Mickey.

And she had a poodle.

We lived just opposite blocks of each other. I had to go downstairs to pick my brother up everyday when he took the school bus home, and I would always take my dogs downstairs for their daily walk. And strangely enough, she would always take her dog (with her sister).

This much I knew... (bear in mind, this was way when I was in secondary school)...

- that she studied in Crescent Girls Secondary
- That she had two other siblings, who were not very friendly... (haha)
- and that she had a poodle..

After a few months of staring at each other, I finally decided to just make friendly conversation. I just started with trying to "sayang" her dog...(but truthfully, her dog was quite fierce...)

and then we just started tallking. Well, I guess it would suffice to say that we were quite well acquainted via our dogs...

And then I knew da when I was in poly, and it was not long when I went to visit his family members during the next year's CNY, and that was where I met Debbie. To my shock (or surprise), she was actually da's first cousin! hee hee.. what a small world, yah?

Ok. Anyway, this was taken during her church wedding. It was held on Sunday at the LUtheran Church of Our Redeemer.

Really touching and everything. I loved their speech. It really tore at my heart. The groom's mother just passed away this year, and he was crying his heart out as he was giving his thank you speech. A real heart wrencher.

This is da, myself and Debbie. The photo was not well taken... but, oh what the hell. She was too busy to re-take, so we decided not to disturb her further.

This was the wedding dinner... On Monday night. At the Holiday Inn Park View..

There. Showing off our new ODM watches... haha

That handsome chap beside me is VIncent, da's youngest brother. I think he is the cutest among all of them (don't tell anyone though.. haha)

Brotherly love... awww...

The decor on the table...

Here's an "artistic" shot taken by Vincent. The two of us were supposed to be looking at the chandelier... how does it look?

Oh by the way Vincent is an amateur photographer. He is really interested in photography...

And that's da with his mum. Now you know where the big eyes come from...

By the way, this is a reminder. Our wedding will be on the 24th November 2007. Mark your calendars, and start saving money now. The invitation will be sent to you nearer to the date.. haha... =)

*And Miss Sophia Lim, Miss Sim Soo Wei, Miss CHerine Tan, Linnie, GET READY TO WORK!!! *

Love you all!
