Just my luck. The diamond on my wedding band just dropped out 2 weeks ago. Can you believe it!? It's been barely a year since I got married, and although the ring has been on my hand everyday, I have NEVER mistreated it.
Everyday when I get home, it comes off my finger. Whenever I am at the gym, it comes off my finger.
But I wear it everyday. Ah duh! WHo wouldn't right? It's a wedding band, for christs' sake.
And so, I took it to Lee Hwa at Centrepoint to get it done. The person was ot very friendly to begin with, and it was already starting to piss me off. He had the bloody audacity to tell me that if I had to pay for it, they would give me a call before proceeding. I was NOT prepared to pay for it.
If a wedding band was not made for daily wear, then why the hell do they call it a wedding band if it's not there everyday to tell the whole world that your'e married?
Mind you, not every one is a tai tai who sits at home doing nothing. I work. I go out. but everytime I do that, I would take my ring off.
Lee Hwa. Phooey! To think that we paid so much for it, thinking that it's a brand that would last longer.
Then fast forward to today. .Lee Hwa called me, and informed me that it was due to my fault that the diamond fell off, and that I would have to pay for it.
Just listen to that. I would have to pay for it because there was an "obvious dent" in the ring. Whatever.
Anyway, I had a suuper long quarrel with the customer service officer at the hotline. She kept slapping her own bloody face.
It went something like that.
Her: Maam, according to the photo taken by our engineers, there was an obvious dent which could have happened when you knocked the ring against the table or anything like that, and then th other day it just fell off.
Me: Then you mean to tell me that the ring cannot take daily wear and tear? Mind you, I am not a tai tai who does nothing at home. I work!
Her: Yes, our ring can take daily wear, but not knocking.
Me: (exasperated) But this is all part and parcel of wearing the ring! If the workmanship is good, then why is there a concern over slight knocks?
Her: According to our engineers, it's because there was a knock.
Me: Then what am I supposed to do? I understand that if I have been wearing the ring for 3 or even 5 years and such a thing happened, I would not have an issue with it! But it's only been half a year for goodness' sake!
Her: According to the standard of the diamond, you would have to pay around $780 for the rep;lacement of the diamond. And anyway, given the condition of the ring, it would not have lasted 3 to 5 years.
(By the way, this was the final straw for me.)
Me: No way am I paying. If you're saying that the workmanship of the diamond ring is so poor that it cannot take these slight damages to it that are prt and parcel of daily wear, then forget it. Return it to the shop. I'll wear it without the diamond then. I really dont' have the budget to get it done.
Her: (very quickly). Is there any room for negotiation? Maybe you can share the cost with us?
Me: Why should I? It's ok, just return the ring to me and I will wear it without the diamond.
Her: Ok. I'll arrange for it to be done then.
Me: (hung up)
Man! I AM SO!!!!!SOOO!!!! UPSET! ANGRY!!!!
What the hell!!! I can't believe that actually happened! WHat workmanship! How could this happen!?
Sheesh....
